Pre-menstrual tension (PMT) or pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) is thought to be caused by a decline in progesterone levels in the days prior to menstruation. This causes a variety of symptoms which typically occur in the week to 10 days before a period is due. Symptoms can include fluid retention, bloating, sore breasts, headaches, nausea, sleep disturbances, tiredness, aches and pains, spots/acne, stress, depression, weepiness, irritability, loss of libido or appetite, inability to concentrate and even violent mood swings. Everyone’s symptoms are different and may even vary from month to month but will usually subside at the end of the period. There are a number of essential oils that can be helpful in reducing the severity of pre-menstrual symptoms, and we have included a selection of the best oils in our PMT blend.
