Self-care is not selfish! 
This week as we are in the month of love and close to valentines day I wanted to remind you self-care is not selfish and that we need to take time to look after ourselves and not just others. 
Each day this week I will be talking to a different health and well-being expert to find out more about what they do, recommendations on how to look after heath and wellness and what they like to do to take timeout. 
Today I have been speaking with Emma Jones from Emma Jones Yoga who is a Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga and modern Yoga Teacher with over 15 years experience. Emma is based in Gloucester but during Lock-down she has been teaching online. 
How did you become a yoga teacher? 
I decided after many years of practicing yoga that it was the right time to take the leap and learn how to teach it! Like many things there are an overwhelming number of yoga teacher training courses and schools so it took me a while to find the one that felt right. I didn't realise at the start of my training that the real learning about teaching would come after I was qualified and still continues! 
What is the one thing you would recommend to people with regards to health and wellness during this time? 
Everyone is having a unique experience living in these times so looking after ourselves is more important than ever. Anything you find soothing will do, whether that is baking/cooking, losing yourself to a book or a film, drawing, journaling, walking, taking a long bath, cuddling a pet - what it is doesn't matter it's just important to do it! 
How can yoga help our well-being or share a top tip? 
Yoga helps us to connect inwardly & strengthen our intuition which in turns helps us to know what it is we need to do in order to best support ourselves. Online classes bring people together at a time when feeling connected and being a part of a supportive community is needed more than ever. 
What do you not recommend doing during lock-down? 
Being hard on yourself! There is a real sense of fatigue in the air at the moment so I think we all need to give ourselves a break and drop any unrealistic expectations and celebrate ALL the wins, no matter how small. 
What do you like to do to take time for you? 
Apart from my daily yoga practice (obviously!) my favourite thing to do is to get outside, as close to nature as possible to remind myself of the wonderful world we still live in which is easy to disconnect from at this time. 
Tell us one interesting or fun fact about you: 
I dance like no-one is watching at least once a day and eat peanut butter daily, sometimes straight from the jar!
